The Lake School of English in Oxford was established in 1978 and welcomes adults of all abilities and nationalities, who have many different reasons for studying English.
The Lake School is an independent school which is owned by its 2 directors: Susan Barber and Carmel Engin.
Susan is Academic and Financial Director, Carmel is responsible for Marketing, Business Development and Student Services. Both are highly qualified English language teachers and experienced teacher trainers, who are involved in all administrative and operational aspects of managing the school.
The Accommodation and Welfare of students is managed by Jayne Chivers, also a qualified and very experienced English language teacher.
The school is situated in the centre of the historic city of Oxford, close to shops, cafes, theatres, bus and train stations, as well as the famous Oxford University colleges.
The school is situated at 14 Park End St, Oxford OX1 1JQ. Summer professional development courses are held at Oxford University SAID Business School, Park End St, OX1 1HP.
The school is well known for its dynamic teachers, friendly atmosphere and successful students. It is a member of ENGLISH UK and QUALITY ENGLISH.

Student Age and Profile
The minimum age at the Lake School is 16. The average age is mid 20s, but we always have some younger and older students here too.
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all its students, especially those aged under 18. However, Lake School courses are for adults. Students aged 16 and 17 must bring a ‘Consent to Travel and Study’ form, completed by their parent or guardian. Students are accompanied during the weekly social and cultural activities and weekend excursions. Otherwise, outside of classes, students’ free time is unsupervised.
